Analyzing five title clips

Analyzing five title clips

James bond – gold finger
The title scene –
- They introduce the actors and people who make the film.

-  Images projected onto a golden painted girl.
-      Action music has a singer singing a song called ‘Gold’ to go with the theme of the film, it    reflects the title. The song is specifically written for the film.

 -     The golden girl and projected images are eye catching and different.
     - The images on the girl are of characters and scenes from the film to make the audience want to know what will happen in the film so they will watch.

The music, shots etc… all catch the audience’s attention. The gold and black contrasts and makes the gold women’s silhouette more clearly.

The scene starts and ends with the same way = hand and man’s face projected on the hand.
      - They chose a girl with a good figure to show the type of girl bond goes for.

   Hellboy

   The title scene –

  - It starts with an old man and a red boy with horns who is going to bed this gets your attention straight away as you want to know what he is.

   -     It then moves onto a load of mechanical pieces moving and clanging together as though someone is making something.
 -  The music is building and is like travelling as the camera moves through the mechanics.
 - The music is fast paced and the clanging sound is loud and over the top of the sound track. The lighting is dim and gloomy to give away the impression that something dramatic or dangerous is going to happen.

- When the camera travels through the mechanics hot pokers in strange shapes almost slam into the shot and they all start to build together to create the title of the film.
Different historical signs and different languages etc… written in fire come into the shot showing that they having some importance in the film. And a face made of fire comes into the shot this makes you think that the film has something to do with fire and the supernatural.

 - The mechanics, fire, metal and jerky movements interest the audience and makes them want to know about the film. It also makes you think that the film has something to do with robots.

   - The camera sets onto the title of the film as it is pieced together and then it moves through it into a shot of the back of someone with a knife and then the scene fades to black and ends.

      I robot
    The title scene –
-It starts with the company which made the film.

-   The title of the film is in capitals, bold lettering with a bright red background, red shows passion, anger, danger etc…

A introduces people and companies it travels through water with pipes through it and the music is water like, its slow, bubbly, and flowing.

-        -  Its dissolves into bubbles and there is a bubble sound with it.

   - Once the bubbles disperse writing comes up about a first law and then that dissolves and the camera pans to a person struggling to get out a car and then the second law comes up.
   - The music is still slow and gentle and you can still hear the bubble sound effects.

-It then moves to a point of view shot watching a pair of metal legs going over a car and then to a girl trapped in another car drowning.
-         -  It then shows the main character being saved and then the scene dissolves and a third law comes up.

   - The writing of the laws dissolving represents the laws being ignored or disappearing.
-It then jumps to a close up of will smiths eyes showing that it was a memory.

The Avengers

the title scene-

-               - As they introduce the different producers etc… the camera does close ups, and pans of different suits and props that the characters in the film wear.

-The use of all the different characters suits makes the audience say ‘oh they are in it’ as from the suits people can recognize who it is straight away.
-The music is simple and slow but it sounds like typical travelling music and it also sounds like super hero music.

- There are some jump shots between the different suits.
       - On the different suits they do close ups of certain parts and on the  particular part there is a name either the actor or a producer etc…
    - The name of the actor is on the prop or suit of the character they play.

-  They focus on some things and then blur the background to focus on another thing for example writing.

-The camera goes onto a light which brightens so the shot fade to white and then the camera pans as the light turns into a planet and the camera is now in space, this makes
the audience know it’s not an ordinary film.

-The colours and lettering stand out and contrast with each other to make them eye catching.

The girl with the dragon tattoo

the title scene-

 - The music starts and its creepy which build tension and the screen is black and white writing appears which stands out on the black background.

-The scene fades from black to the opening shot of the title scene.

 - The editing is fast as shots of different objects/ clothing flash onto the screen as the camera pans upwards as if going up a body.

- So far all the shots are dull and black which can show danger and mystery.
     - As the shots of the different things appear there are different producers etc… names on the screen.

-   The shot of the black water can symbolize something dark, mysterious and dangerous is going to happen.
     -    As the shots move on you can see that it is water going over black leather which can show danger but also makes you think of bikers.

The black water running over the title is strange but eye catching.
-           -The music picks up speed and gets slightly louder to create the sense of action.
-         -  The shot pans over a struggling foot in water then move onto flowing over a key board which could show some sort of person or people are going to overpower others and they cannot stop it.

    -  The black women’s face and black clothing etc… give the overall feel that it’s going to involve death, danger and Gothic properties.
   - The shots now show us that the black stuff is oil showing us that it is stronger and harder stuff than just water.

     - The extreme close up of the burn eye makes you uncomfortable but also makes you go wow, as it’s like the saying the burning hate in your eyes.
     - The music gets louder and faster as the shots start to show more danger.

              -  A close up of Daniel Craig’s face shows us that he is in the film.
        - The fire and the black background contrast with each other it shows us passion, power, danger etc… but it also interests the audience.

-  The growing of black oil covered vines coming out eyes is strange and creepy.

The rest of the shots are creepy and gothic, they are like people struggling to get free of different bonds, like guys, drowning etc… the electrical cords, hands, vines and flowers all show that they are trying to break
It then fades to black.

  1. An interesting range of title sequences that show that you can analyse different genres. I like the way you have used stills to support your explanations.
